Saffron Kent knows how to push all the right buttons when it comes to creating character tension so the angsty is ultra thick in this one, at times tempestuous (no pun intended) and full of longing and repression。 The Boys of Bardstown's first You Beautiful Thing, You is swimming with everything that we love about Saffron- flowery prose, loads of drama, immersive meta-heavy characterization, and so much sexual tension。I've been longing for Tempest and Ledger since Saffron first introduced them, and when we learned it had a breeding element, holy moly was I ready。 I loved the dynamic between them, a connection that started long before their need for revenge, a connection that felt pure but complicated。 One that ultimate was beautiful and healing, catalytic even。 As always, Saffron delivers two radically flawed characters who are trying to find themselves in the murky waters of both growing up and the complications of their relationship。 This is the source of much of the angst- their half-truths, their dishonesty。 At times I wanted to shake them for holding back so much, for so much misunderstanding and unspoken between them, but their love felt so real and powerful, even when they weren't giving their full selves to the other。 But I loved how openly they see and understand one another's needs, how they see behind the walls。 Ledger is more than an angry man, Tempest is more than her heartache。 Both are beautifully rendered and likable characters that touch the heart- and as always the spice is delicious。 Ledger is all kinds of possessive (perhaps the most ever for Saffron。。。。which, my friends, is saying quite a lot)。 And I appreciated how their dynamic breaks away a bit form what I lovingly consider the Saffron mold- that unrequited-resistant banter。 The love is clear between them both。 And this story has a bit more edge to it as well。 Darker elements between them, and Ledger has a bit of an unhinged quality to him that made him even more yummy。The chemistry is dynamic and addictive and the emotional impact of the story hits。 I FELT for them and with them。 It's a longer story, and I'll admit at times I felt the length。 Prose meanders in places, and I felt a bit more restraint could have impacted the story flow - at times felt more plot or character adjacent than central。 But I adored the characters and their romance overall, and I'm excited for more from this series! 。。。more
Lolina ⋆,
I'm getting a strange sense of deja vu 💀。I feel like I start every single one of these reviews for SAK's most recent books by saying that I wanted to like them 😭。 Because trust me, with this one in particular, I really really did。 Because let me tell you- ever since Tempest & Ledger had been introduced back in 2020, I have been WAITING for their book。 And I was even more excited because of their cameo in Wyn and Conrad's book。 So to end up being overall disappointed actually sucks。 I felt like t I'm getting a strange sense of deja vu 💀。I feel like I start every single one of these reviews for SAK's most recent books by saying that I wanted to like them 😭。 Because trust me, with this one in particular, I really really did。 Because let me tell you- ever since Tempest & Ledger had been introduced back in 2020, I have been WAITING for their book。 And I was even more excited because of their cameo in Wyn and Conrad's book。 So to end up being overall disappointed actually sucks。 I felt like this couple had SO much potential, and so so so much to give but they just。。。didn't?Anyways 💀 This review is going to borderline be a therapeutic rant for me, so don't mind me 😍。 -=- I'll split this up into my main issues with it: ※ Inconsistent angst/ conflict※ Lack of respect & chemistry ※ The nonexistent dialogue 😭
One of my biggest problems was just how inconsistent and irrelevant the conflicts in this book felt。 It went from Tempest wanting to get revenge on Ledger by getting pregnant (we're not even going to get into how stupid this is), to him apparently breaking her heart when they were younger, to her father getting involved and her getting married。 Why not just pick one? Everything just felt so messy because of it。 This to me also ties heavily in with the writing。 It's hard to take a conflict seriously when you literally don't get to experience it。 We're TOLD that Ledger broke Tempest's heart, and we're TOLD that she loved him, and we're TOLD that they had this undeniable chemistry in the past- but we literally don't SEE it。 Yes, we get a chapter or two in the beginning, but that doesn't make up for the hundreds worth of pages after that。 You can't base such a big plot point around an undeveloped conflict。 And I specifically use the word undeveloped because (tying this back to what I said earlier about being excited to read about this couple), their angst was inconsistent。 In Conrad and Wyn's book, there was specifically a scene where Ledger tells Wyn that Tempest means nothing to him, where she overhears and runs off。 I was SO excited to see that scene being addressed in this book, and was one of the main reasons that I rushed to read this in the first place: (extract from These Thorn Kisses): [“What about her?”“I thought… she was important to you。 I mean, the way you werepretending to not stare at her and —”“Tempest is nothing。”。。。I notice movement behind Ledger’s shoulders。A flash of dark hair and stricken gray eyes。Tempest。She’s standing at the kitchen threshold and from the looks of it, sheheard everything。 When she spins around and leaves, my heart twists forher, for the disdain and rejection she must’ve heard in Ledger’s voice。 ]So colour me surprised when the above scene wasn't ever addressed- and that it apparently just didn't happen anymore。 😐 It would've made for some really nice angst, but it was just written off。 -=- The next thing that absolutely baffled me about this book was the lack of respect that Ledger showed to Tempest, with not nearly enough grovelling to compensate for it。 I won't talk a lot about it, but the way that he cut Tempest off was simultaneously hilarious and frustrating because I'm not even joking she barely got a full sentence out。 And anything she did get out was usually just her parroting back what he said to her, the dialogue literally went this isn't real:
“I want a baby。”“A baby。”“Yours。”“Mine。”“I want—”“A baby。”“You remind me of a bug。”“A bug?”“Because you won't shut up。” I wrote that and no it wasn't an extract from the book but it damn well could be 💀。 I don't think they truly had one meaningful conversation in the book where Ledger didn't either tell her to shut up or stop talking 💀☝️, cut her off, or just truly listen。 This was shocking to me, because it was written as if that was just his personality, and tried to play it off as being possessive- but you can be possessive and still respect the supposed love of your life BYE。 And what made it even worse to me was the fact that Tempest DIDN'T CARE。 She just took it in the name of him being misunderstood 🥺👉👈。 That is a grown-ass man。I was so excited to read about her character because she was always portrayed as being this hothead who knew what she wanted- but the way that she let this man walk all over her was crazy。 I get caring for someone, but to justify their shit behaviour to such an extent, and accept such half-assed apologies was wild。 Just so I don't seem like I'm pulling words out of my ass, here's some of their literal dialogue: “I think you need to shut up now。”I jerk back, offended。 “What?”“Because I think if I let you talk any longer, you’re going to put me tosleep。” I gasp but he keeps going, “And then this big fat boner that I’ve hadever since we sat down in the tub would just go to waste。”“That’s very —”“And then where will your poor little cum-hungry pussy be?”
This ties into one of the points above about the lack of proper dialogue between the two- because I genuinely feel like there was no progress made in this relationship。 There was just so much filler in the form of inner monologues。 I'm reaching my breaking point。-=-The next thing I wanted to comment on 💀, and felt weird to me was the timing。 For example, the pregnancy, which is arguably the biggest part of the book: we go from Tempest getting her period and finding out she isn't pregnant and being absolutely gutted to an immediate one-month time jump to her holding the positive pregnancy test- and mind you this wasn't even a chapter later 😭。 The timing of the book felt really random and abrupt。 The reason I chose to mention this was that the timing really messed with the grovelling, in particular with the side characters (I'm looking at you, Reed)。 When he (Tempest's brother) finds out about the pregnancy he really emotionally hurts her, and we never see him apologize, but instead are just told that he does and that she forgives him 😐🥺。 -=-In terms of the smut 💀☝️ I'm not going to say anything but just know the line about '✨life-giving cum✨' was somehow worse than baby batter and I didn't know that was possible。-=- In terms of the characters Ledger really caught me off guard。 Off-topic but what was his obsession with saying 'horndog。'IM CRYING。 ENOUGH IS ENOUGH。 His dialogue actually left me on the floor because what was he yapping on about。 I just could not connect at all with his character。 His whole persona was centred around being 'possessive' and 'angry' but that was literally it。 He felt strangely 2D to me in a way that I haven't felt about any of SAK's other heroes。 In relation to Tempest, I don't even know。 The lack of self-preservation was shocking 😭。 I'm not even going to expand on that。 -=- Overall 😭 I don't what to say。 SAK has no joke written two of my favourite book, so it's not like I don't like her writing and am reading this book for the funsies- but she has officially lost the plot 💀。 The whole concept of pregnancy for revenge was crazy to me, and was equally as crazy as how it was handled, and overall this was wild。 From the lack of grovelling to disrespect, to lack of self-respect, and just overall ridiculous behaviour, I'm out。 I do have to say, that the last chapter of the book was so sweet, and was literally everything that I was looking for with this story。 I was expecting relevant angst, some strong characters, a LOT of comfort care and more, but we just didn't get that。 I have so much more to say but for my sanity, I'm going to stop there。 。。。more

Rating: DNFI absolutely hate to dnf books but I just couldn't get through this one。 The book blurb/description sounded very interesting and it's what made me request an arc for it。 But the way it was written was just not it for me。 Some of the dialogue didn't really make sense, like it was supposed to be poetic but it made me cringe。 The interactions between the fmc and mmc were very odd as well。 And the sudden time change threw me for a loop。 I'm not saying don't read this book as I've seen rev Rating: DNFI absolutely hate to dnf books but I just couldn't get through this one。 The book blurb/description sounded very interesting and it's what made me request an arc for it。 But the way it was written was just not it for me。 Some of the dialogue didn't really make sense, like it was supposed to be poetic but it made me cringe。 The interactions between the fmc and mmc were very odd as well。 And the sudden time change threw me for a loop。 I'm not saying don't read this book as I've seen reviews from people who happen to really enjoy it。 But it just wasn't for me。 。。。more

I was reached out to and offered and ARC and I’m so grateful for the opportunity。 Sadly for me this was a DNF。I didn’t realize this was an 800+ page book and I definitely struggle with longer reads。 Although the tropes seemed really interesting (which is why I agreed to ARC read), I just didn’t vibe with the plot or characters。 Please don’t let my DNF keep you from picking this up。 I DNF more than the average reader。 Saffron is extremely talented and has such a unique way of writing and I think I was reached out to and offered and ARC and I’m so grateful for the opportunity。 Sadly for me this was a DNF。I didn’t realize this was an 800+ page book and I definitely struggle with longer reads。 Although the tropes seemed really interesting (which is why I agreed to ARC read), I just didn’t vibe with the plot or characters。 Please don’t let my DNF keep you from picking this up。 I DNF more than the average reader。 Saffron is extremely talented and has such a unique way of writing and I think many people would enjoy this! 。。。more

3。5 stars。 I typically have loved all of Saffron Kent’s books, but this one missed the mark for me a little bit。 I’m all for a certain level of “unrealistic in real life but perfectly acceptable in a story” type of writing, but I think Tempest and Ledger’s story was a bit over the top! I didn’t really feel Ledger’s attraction to her either, it just all seemed a bit forced to me。 It was also a really, really long read… WHEW!

You Beautiful Thing, You is a standalone story set in the world of Saffron’s Bardstown world。 Tempest and Ledger might be SAK’s most unhinged, complex characters yet。 This is a very “hate to you love you” type book。 Both characters are obsessed with the other, but refuse to show it。 Their interactions constantly shocked me and I never knew where they would take things next。Tempest is still fairly young, but has dealt with plenty in her life already。 All she wants is love and to feel like she’s a You Beautiful Thing, You is a standalone story set in the world of Saffron’s Bardstown world。 Tempest and Ledger might be SAK’s most unhinged, complex characters yet。 This is a very “hate to you love you” type book。 Both characters are obsessed with the other, but refuse to show it。 Their interactions constantly shocked me and I never knew where they would take things next。Tempest is still fairly young, but has dealt with plenty in her life already。 All she wants is love and to feel like she’s apart of a family, so her idea is to create her own。 She’s a very unique characters with a wide range of personality traits。 She’s sweet and caring, yet can put her foot down and be independent。 Although she’s utterly obsessed with Ledger, she doesn’t fall right for his charms and learns he isn’t the perfect man she thought he was。Ledger is a very complex and complicated character。 Not everyone will love him, but I enjoyed his crass attitude and behavior because I knew it would lead to an obsessive, possessive alpha hero。 He really lays his hatred for Tempest on thick and shocked me with some of the things he said。 But Saffron knows how to write some unhinged mmc’s and she definitely did so in this story。Although the storyline and characters are on another level for SAK stories, it’s her usual style of writing/story which is very unique。 Not everyone will favor her writing style, but it adds another level to the book for me。 It’s simply just unique and makes me constantly question what these two complex characters will do next。 I know many people don’t like the pregnancy trope, but I really love it so I was really excited to see this book had one! Overall, I liked seeing Saffron’s usual obsessive characters taken to a whole new level。 I also loved the past character cameos as well into some look into future characters for this series。*ARC kindly provided in exchange for an honest review*⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 stars🌶️🌶️🌶️/spice level🖤Tropes: enemies to lovers, forbidden romance, brother’s rival, pregnancy, soccer player hero, he falls first, angst filled 。。。more

WHERES THE EPILOGUE?!?!?!?! What the hell im pissed that there’s no epilogue。 I loved this book, but the fact that the book just ends with no epilogue makes me mad。 Not even a link for a bonus scene with a newsletter。 I don’t think I’ve ever read a book by this author (and I’ve read every single book this author has written) that didn’t have an epilogue, so why didn’t this have one? We don’t get to see the babies born, she’s still only 28 weeks in the last chapter。 We get no look into the future WHERES THE EPILOGUE?!?!?!?! romance with a unique heroine and a total alphahole for a hero and I just eat that up。 You Beautiful Thing, You follows Ledger and Tempest。 Ledger is Tempest’s brother’s rival。 These two are messy from the start。 They are both obsessive and possessive people, especially when it comes to one another。Tempest wants Ledger from the first second she lands eyes on him。 Ledger wants her too but what he wants more? Well, she was adoring -- in love with Ledger until he crushed her spirit。 But in SAK book's true love never dies; it just smothers until the right moment when the lyrical love bow strikes the main characters in the heart。 As usual, I loved the characters in these series。 You can expect the over-the-top jealous and possessive hero and the charming erstwhile heroine。 Tempest is confident yet sweet to Ledger's stormy, broody anger。 Their story is a virtual dance through rivalry, personal familial issues, unquenchable attraction to love。 And while I loved the characters -- their personalities, their interactions, Ledger's dirty talk -- as well as the story theme, I found the progression at time just a little meandering and some of the lyricism, which I actually enjoy, crossed into characters' repetition of their sentiment and inner thoughts, which played out as similar character exchanges。 This isn't to say I didn't enjoy the book because I absolutely did。 Ledger is probably my favorite in this world。 (Of course, I said this about the last hero, but I really mean it this time! lol)I liked the change of setting from St。 Mary's school to simply one of the best friends within the girl power group that also featured women from former books。 It was also fun to have some of the hot men drop into the scenes, and the book was still easy to grasp as a standalone。You can count on SAK for the spice when it hits。 Phew, those heated, hungry looks! Every girl needs Bardstown man。Overall, I liked this story, remain a fan of this world and its characters。 。。。more

HELLO 🥵) and I love how possessive he is of her despite claiming he doesn’t want a relationship (oblivious men 🫣)。While the book is over 500 pages long, it’s not as long as it appears by page count。 On many pages it’s almost entirely single sentences spaced out with paragraph breaks, so the word count isn’t as long as you’d expect。 That and how much fun I was having made it easy for me to fly through this, though that writing style did make things feel repetitive and dragged out after a while。 。。。more

First time reading a book by Saffron, and if they are all like this sign me up。 Tempest and Ledger's story is intense and at times crazy scary。Tempest has loved Ledger since the first moment she laid eyes on him at a game, Ledger has one thing on his mind: revenge。 Tempest went after what she wanted and didn't hold back who she was。 Ledger has so much anger in him and passion for what he wants。 To say the man is unhinged is an understatement。 While reading I got a little nervous when Ledger felt First time reading a book by Saffron, and if they are all like this sign me up。 Tempest and Ledger's story is intense and at times crazy scary。Tempest has loved Ledger since the first moment she laid eyes on him at a game, Ledger has one thing on his mind: revenge。 Tempest went after what she wanted and didn't hold back who she was。 Ledger has so much anger in him and passion for what he wants。 To say the man is unhinged is an understatement。 While reading I got a little nervous when Ledger felt things slipping from his hands。 But good for Tempest for not giving up even when she should have run the other way。 The passion and hate these two have toward each other will melt the pages。 The way Ledger’s possessive nature takes over I don't know if we should run away or sign up for what he has to offer。 If you love a waving red flag then this is the book for you。 。。。more

This was my first Saffron read and I enjoyed it though it may have felt a bit long。 It had a wild, drama filled plot that I had to see through。 Ledger (MMC) is her brother’s rival —well former soccer rival since they aren’t in high school anymore but they still very much hate each other even as now brothers-in-law 😂 He’s known on and off the field as the Angry Thorne for his temper and just being a jerk。 Tempest (FMC) was his stalker。 Ever since she saw him on the field, she’s been obsessed fant This was my first Saffron read and I enjoyed it though it may have felt a bit long。 It had a wild, drama filled plot that I had to see through。 Ledger (MMC) is her brother’s rival —well former soccer rival since they aren’t in high school anymore but they still very much hate each other even as now brothers-in-law 😂 He’s known on and off the field as the Angry Thorne for his temper and just being a jerk。 Tempest (FMC) was his stalker。 Ever since she saw him on the field, she’s been obsessed fantasizing about their non existent future … until he broke her heart。 Now a couple years later, she is feeling the pressure from her father’s expectations and really wants a baby to bring joy into her life。 Who better to ask to help her with her plan than her brother’s rival and also her best friend’s brother, Ledger, right?! 🫣Their newfound relationship in this book is obsessive and possessive with lies, revenge plots, and secrets。 Though they don’t start off with the best intentions, they later are able to see each other for who they are and support each other as they face their issues。 There is a lot of growing to be had as well as sweet, spicy, tension filled, frustrating, and tearing up moments in this book。 It’s a rollercoaster of emotions for sure with loads of angst。 Ledger at times seemed like a mountain man keeping Tempest safe in their cabin in their bubble。 Also, loved Tempest’s friend group。 They were loads of fun。 Might need to dive into their books next。 Thank you for the ARC。 Book quotes: “We’re violent, and volatile。 We’re the storm, him and me” “I’ll move the sky and stop the earth; I’ll tear down the ground and part the seas to give you what your heart desires。”Tropes:Brother’s rivalBreedingRevenge Cabin Obsessive/Possessive/ Unhinged MMCPregnancy Feisty HeroineAngstToxic love 。。。more
